El grito, el silencio

Musiciens sur scène

In the heart of Andalusia

El Grito, el Silencio is an authentic journey into Spanish Andalusia and its fiery flamenco. First performed to great acclaim in Montreal in May 2008 with guests Rosario La Tremendita, the flamboyant singer from Seville, and Andalusian guitarist Juan Requena, this production went on to such major events as the Luxembourg Flamenco Festival in Esch and the Festival Lyrique in Aix-en-Provence (France).

Inspired by the writings of the famous Andalusian poet Federico García Lorca (1898-1936), and of Djalal-e- Din Rumi (1207-1273), the greatest Persian Sufi poet, this concert is composed of contemporary rereadings of old romanceros stemming from traditional forms of flamenco music (granainas, tangos, peteneras, zambras, soleás and bulerias), as well as new compositions based on the merging of different styles, a process Constantinople has explored for many years.
