A journey into the Mexico of the 17th century

With a journey into the Mexico of the 17th century, Constantinople embarks on the quest of digging up deep ties between ancient musical writings and living oral traditions. The heritage and depth of an “Old World” combined with the effervescence and openness of a “New World” give birth to a new music, a blend of the monophonic and the improvised polyphonic traditions.

Chaconas, Pabanas, Villancico, Folías, Galliardas, Xácaras, Zarambeques and Canarios will be revisited by Constantinople and its guest artists from Mexico for a programme of vocal and instrumental music of extraordinary rhythmical vitality and stunning melodic virtuosity.
