Transmitted orally from one generation to the next, with its melodic ragas, precisely calculated yet highly complex rhythms and beats, and its both geometric and lyrical ornamentation, Indian music, from the north down to the south, provides an inexhaustible source of inspiration and beauty.”

Kiya Tabassian and his ensemble Constantinople present a contemporary reinterpretation of the Rubaiyat, the renowned collection of poems by Persian poet, astronomer, and mathematician Omar Khayyam. In collaboration with singer Ghalia Benali, they pay tribute to the legacy of Umm Kulthum, the iconic voice of Middle Eastern music, by revisiting the compositions of Riad Al Sunbati that brought these quatrains to life. Through new arrangements and original compositions by Tabassian, the project creates a vibrant dialogue between centuries-old Sufi poetry and the sounds of today, bridging Arab and Persian musical traditions.

Between sea and mountains, between modes and polyphony — Clair-obscur is born of the desire for deeper dialogue on the part both of the musicians of Constantinople and the singers of A Filetta, the preeminent ensemble of Corsican polyphony. They have created a poetic and musical suite, mixing polyphonies created by the well-versed singers of A Filetta with songs and tunes composed and arranged by Kiya Tabassian. A profoundly touching concert.

Even if more than 600 years separates the life of John-Sebastien Bach (1685 -1750) and Omar Khayam (1048 -1131), these two genius were made to meet each other.  Their visions of the world, as a perfect match of mathematics mastery and a super high level of spirituality, bring these two men in a delightful dialogue and traces a clear path to the sublime. In this program Constantinople brings these two artists into a dialogue, where the sacred and spirituality transcend borders. For this new creation Constantinople proposes arrangements of some of the most beautiful spiritual songs and arias of JS Bach in dialogue with poems of Omar Khayyam sung in Persian and responding to Bach’s songs.

Flamenco Impulses

The sense of wonder and inspiration known as the duende in flamenco and the hâl in Persian music reaches its peak here. Kiya Tabassian, musical explorer and master of the Persian setar, enters into a passionate and fascinating musical dialogue with flamenco guitar ambassador Dani de Morón. Together, they craft a musical fresco rich in color and resonance.

Two virtuosos, surrounded by outstanding percussionists, elevate and create new music inspired by their flamenco and Persian roots. Between modality and colorful harmonies, captivating rhythms, and an overflowing synergy, the three masters take the audience on a journey full of discoveries.
