ABOUT Françoise Atlan
Françoise Atlan is an artist in dual culture, with a particularly original vocal expression, style and technique. Her Judeo‐Berber roots have led her naturally to a passion for vocal Mediterranean heritage, especially the Judeo‐Spanish and Judeo‐Arabic traditions, while pursuing her career as lyric singer. Invited as a soloist on major international scenes such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Mexico City International Festival, Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Festival of Sacred Music in Fès, Les Suds in Arles and the Festival d’Art Lyrique of Aix‐en‐Provence, Françoise Atlan also collaborates with great musicians and ensembles. Several of her recordings have received awards from the critics (Diapason d’Or, Choc du Monde de la Musique, FFFF Télérama, Grand Prix of the Académie Charles Cros among others).
Holder of a teaching degree in Musicology from the University of Aix‐en‐Provence, she received her prize in piano and chamber music from the Conservatoire d’Aix. She won the Prix Villa Medicis Hors Les Murs for the collect of traditional music and poetry of the city of Fez in Morocco, and the Savings Bank Foundation Award “Best World Music Artist” (2007).
In addition to her career that led her to perform on stages around the world and to pursue her musical collaborations and art projects, she is also artistic director of the Andalusian Atlantic Festival of Essaouira.
