Breathings
A celebration of our intimate relationship with nature
This program offers the encounter of three captivating musical traditions deeply rooted in the essence of breath, the life force that connects all cultures and peoples. The traditional music of the Mi’kmaq, the Inuit throat singing, and the melodious sounds of Persian music come together in this concert that celebrates the power of breath in music.
A meeting between Inuit throat singing, Mi’kmaq and Persian music
Musical explorer Kiya Tabassian, on the setar, invites you to a meeting with two figures from the indigenous scene, Mi’kmaq singer Darlene Gijuminag, and Nunavut artist Celina Kalluk, renowned for her mastery of throat singing. They are joined by dedicated musicians from Constantinople – Didem Başar on kanun, Patrick Graham on percussion, Etienne Lafrance on double bass, and Kianoush Khalilian on ney.
Inheriting living indigenous traditions that find their roots in the sounds of nature, Darlene and Celina engage in a timeless musical dialogue with the musicians of Constantinople, immersing the audience in the richness of ancestral musical traditions.
Breathings, a musical experience that reminds us of our fragile relationship to the universe and the fundamental elements of life…
