Since its founding in 2001 by Kiya Tabassian, Constantinople has developed more than 60 creations and 25 albums (2 new albums are in preparation). The ensemble has established itself as a major force in a musical practice that explores and reinvents ancient repertoires, blending Mediterranean traditions with influences from other horizons, in a constant dialogue between past and present.
Unclassifiable and free, Constantinople defies categories. At once a classical music ensemble, an early music ensemble, a creative laboratory, a crossroads of oral traditions and a space of contemporary invention, it affirms itself as a place where arts, cultures and imaginaries converge. Constantinople crosses aesthetic, geographical and temporal boundaries, giving rise to works that refuse to be confined to any single framework and that invite listeners to rediscover the world through listening.
